| Sunday, April 23, 2006 Eight Below & The Producers watched the abovementioned shows last fri despite the impending exams. after all, i haf no heart to score in dis exam. both movies score well differently, and they r sure worth my tickets. ![]() eight below 1st reviewed is a critically condemned disney show called Eight Below. it seemed disney isn't on a gd direction towards producing gd movies. it's abt a team of NSF (National SCIENCE Foundation, not the s'porean nsf) staff stationed at antarctic having to abandon camp when the worst storm in recorded history hits the southern continent. but as theirs is a small camp equipped w only the basics, it turned out dat they had to leave the sled dogs behind cos the only plane they had was too small to carry them. so... the movie splits into 2 lineage, w one counting and showing the days of survival of the dogs and the other one w their caretaker doing his best to try and get back and fetch them back to civilisation as winter sets in. hmmm... when paul walker and (gawd, dunno wat his name was) the american pie guy started the show half-naked, i was like: oh... is dis like Into The Blue Antarctic Version (perhaps best aptly called Into The White) or wat? but it's a family-oriented disney picture! surely there wun b too much bikini-clad babes and board shorts dudes, will there? ha... those ppl will b mad to dress liddat IN ANTARCTICA lol my, the only plus pt abt the show (cos critics tink even the dogs acted better than paul walker) was the impressive landscape of Antarctica. so much so dat i got inspired to want to go there and work. i noe, i noe, i'm acting like a kid again, being easily 'inspired to do sth' every now and then. but hey! antarctica IS my place! i mean, i haf a cold personality, i like cold weather and i'm used to being all by myself. at least w/o the required expertise (using eqpt or being a field guide), i wun die from driving myself crazy when i'm down there for 6 mths, yar? but of cos, stamina is another thing. hmmm... if one of the criteria for being a field guide is to pass 2.4km... ermz... *shrug* well, i can b a photographer like dat AP guy... ![]() the producers b4 watching Eight Below, jan and i watched The Producers, w the only intention of watching Uma Thurman, who made her appearance only 1 hr into the show. duh! but overall, it was stupidly hilarious. it was abt an accountant and a broadway producer who came up w the notion dat they could earn more money by producing a flop than a hit. and so dat was wat they did. they went to find the worst play ever, the worst director and the worst actors they could find (including swedish Ulla by Uma who couldn't mouth a proper english word). even tho jan said she prefered Mrs Henderson Presents, i tot she compared movies of 2 diff types. tho both had songs and dance, The Producers is a musical remake while the latter was only a movie related to a theatre. which was y the actors from TP seemed over-acting rite from the start. ![]() the producers 2 i guess the hilarious part came from the cameo of the gay director and his asst. i dunno if it's stereotype or wat, but it's usually such acts dat had downrite despicable ideas dat on one hand makes the characters lively and comedic and on the other hand, seemed to degrade homosexuals into screaming, drama and weak ppl. still, the whole scene where the producers went to ask the director to take the helm of the show was farnie and lively. at one time, it seemed like a bollywood movie, cos the seemingly empty hse suddenly popped out a dozen of weirdly dressed men dancing w the leads. and of cos, their dance was v bollywood style. and i tink the pt dat gained the most laughter was when the deranged german came after their lives w a gun. haha... i wun tell wat they said, but the whole cinema literally roared at the pun. and den, there was the mad neo-nazi soldier. as usual, w stereotyping at works, there seemed to b a tragic comedian effect w dis character. he reminds me of a computer game, and reminds me of the army-veteran in Happy Tree Frens who go gaga at the sound of bangs. but basically, the producers of The Producers tried to make the audience accept the character by totally uglifying the role as a neo-nazi german. ![]() the producers 3 basically, i wun want to use logic to judge the show, cos comedies dun deserve to b judged w logic and standards. if it can make me laugh for dat moment, den it's gd =)
